Finding Treasures
Treasure does not always equal money
My late husband was a Texas musician and had a dance band, Rick Sikes & The Rhythm Rebels, from the late 1950s until he was arrested and jailed in 1971. He passed away in 2009. But he left behind so many treasures.
I found his year book for 1967. He made a note of every show they played, what they wore, how many were in the band and how much they got paid.
This is a true treasure to me. It puts it all in perspective.
For instance. on July 18, 1967, here is where he played and how much they got paid.
That doesn’t seem like much money for playing from 9 pm to midnight, but it was the reality. And there were five band members that night. They certainly didn’t get rich playing music.
I hope you enjoy the glimpses.
