And then...
Life takes twists and turns
Just as we create for our characters when writing books, we also experience unexpected twists and turns in our own lives. I’ve been MIA from Substack for three weeks or longer and simply feeling like I cannot support one more platform.
However, this morning I get a notice of a new follower and am compelled to hop on and say something…anything.
When I am writing a scene, I often use the phrase ‘and then’ to move the story forward. A woman stomps into a room in a huff…and then…He jumps up and hides something behind his back…and then…
See?
It’s a great way to move a story forward. I’ve been stalled on my Christmas novella until this morning, when in meditation, I got the answer I need to get back to work.
Sometimes we have to step away from something in order to see it. I don’t understand why that is, but we can get so bogged down in life’s scenes we lose our footing.
My late husband and I had a friend, Roxy Gordon, who passed way in 2000. His favorite phrase was “Life, she’s a strange ol’ train.” If you’re curious, look him up. He was an American poet and Indian activist.
True words.

Good news about resuming work on your Christmas novella!
Sometimes we all need to step away 🙏🏻 Sending hugs.
